Austin Community Seeks Justice in the Wake of Fatal Stabbing on William Cannon Drive

A terrible tragedy occurred on a recent Sunday night in Austin, leaving one guy dead and a neighborhood struggling with violence. After receiving an emergency call in the 1900 block of East William Cannon Drive, the Austin Police Department (APD) found a man who was bleeding on the ground and a piece of metal that might have been from a violent conflict.

The victim was subsequently identified by authorities as Elijah Martinez, a male Hispanic who was born on December 27, 1984. The incident became a homicide inquiry after Martinez passed away from his wounds at 8:12 p.m., despite being taken to a nearby hospital quickly. According to the APD’s official website, the events of November 10 have sparked a citywide hunt for justice and answers.

The deceased was discovered next to a homeless camp, and the area of concern was next to an AutoZone, according to the APD announcement. Whether Martinez’s fatal wound was caused by an assault or a fall was not made apparent in the initial reports. Later video canvassing, however, made it clear that there had been a stabbing and that several people had been observed leaving the area after the event.

The APD is requesting community support as no suspects have been found or anyone arrested. The Austin Police Department can be reached at 512-974-TIPS by anyone with information. Austin’s 59th homicide of 2024 is a startling statistic that highlights the persistent problems with urban crime.
