Residents of Austin looking to up their readiness game can mark their calendars for November 20th. That’s when theCity’s Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HSEM)is set to bring their Emergency Preparedness Pop-Up to the Carver Branch Library. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., attendees can swing by for tips, face-to-face info sessions, and free supplies to better prepare for unpredictable Texas weather and other emergencies.
The pop-up is a part of a broader initiative by the HSEM, aiming to seriously bolster emergency preparedness within the community. Attendees of the Carver Branch Library event will have the chance to not just gather valuable knowledge but also to literally take home tools that could one day prove essential. According tothe City’s announcement, the first 25 people will receive a kit with goodies valued over $100 think lanterns, weather radios, and more, all free of charge.
The popup will feature representatives from HSEM and other key city departments and emergency response partners. These experts and officials are there to share their knowledge on how residents can best safeguard themselves and their loved ones when facing typical local risks such as flooding, heatwaves, winter storms, or wildfires.
