Austin Man Charged with First-Degree Murder Amidst Investigation of Elderly Man’s Death in Lake Travis Area

After a rotting body was found in a house near Lake Travis, an Austin man was charged with murder. According to FOX 7 Austin, deputies were sent to the residence on the 16300 block of E. Lake Shore Drive on November 22 at around 2:19 p.m. for a welfare check, according to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. A worried family member who had been unable to contact an older relative—a wheelchair-bound guy in his 80s—for a long time made the request for assistance.

When deputies arrived, they discovered the elderly man’s body in “advanced stages of decomposition” inside the house. Additionally, 37-year-old Chad Wayne Christopher was discovered at the site and taken into custody right thereafter. He was eventually charged with first-degree murder and was brought into the Travis County Jail. According to the same FOX 7 Austin article, Christopher is believed to have been the deceased’s caretaker, according to TCSO.

According to KVUE, the victim’s identify has not yet been made public. Before disclosing more information on the fatality, authorities are awaiting identification by the Travis County Medical Examiner and notification of the victim’s next of kin.

Anyone with possibly pertinent information is being urged by investigators to come forward and assist in illuminating the circumstances behind this occurrence. The TCSO Tip Line can be reached at 512-854-1444.
