The pedestrian who died in an unsettling hit-and-run incident in late August has been formally named by Austin Police.According to CBS Austin, the victim was 38-year-old Michael Schoenherr, whose life was brutally taken in the early hours of the morning in the 700 block of East Ben White Boulevard westbound service road, close to a Murphy’s gas station.
According to the Austin Police Department, Schoenherr was struck on August 27 at around 1:04 a.m., according to the CBS Austin article. The car that was engaged in the tragedy chose to fly, leaving Michael in its behind, rather than stopping to offer assistance or report the collision, which added to the already depressing circumstances.
Since the suspect is still at large, the case has not been resolved. Now, the APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit is asking the public for help in the investigation. They look for any information that can help identify the suspicious car.For tips, MSNrelay provides the same numbers: 512-472-8477 or the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program at austincrimestoppers.org or the Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8111.
A financial prize of up to $1,000 has been given for information that significantly supports the pursuit of justice and results in an arrest, providing an incentive for those who might be reluctant to come forward. When weighed against the loss of a life and the unpunished criminal, it is a meager gesture, but it is a means to an end and could be the thread that breaks the heartless anonymity of hit-and-run offenders.
