The collision that killed a man happened on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, just after one in the morning, according to the APD. The pedestrian victim, now known as Michael Schoenherr, was declared dead at the site.
Following the collision, the unidentified suspect left the scene without pausing. The public has been asked to assist in locating and identifying the suspect’s car. “Anyone with any information should contact APD’s Vehicular Homicide unit at 512-974-8111,”the message continues. By visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477, you can also anonymously provide information with the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program, which offers a reward of up to $1,000 for any tip that leads to an arrest.

Austin had seen 63 deadly crashes at this time last year, with 66 people killed.
