Baltimore Braces for Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms Today, Cooler Weekend with Rainfall Ahead

Baltimore residents can expect a cold front to slide through the area today, bringing scattered showers and the possibility of a thunderstorm or two. The

National Weather Service

forecasts highs in the 70s to near 80 today, but don’t expect more than a tenth of an inch of rain. According to their area forecast discussion, showers should clear out by tonight.

Post-frontal conditions will see clouds depart Friday, with high-pressure building from the Great Plains to the East Coast. Temperatures behind the front are predicted to remain above normal before falling, with Friday’s highs in the mid-60s to near 70 degrees. The expected gusty winds could lead to some fire weather concerns due to “very dry antecedent conditions,” the

NWS

cautions. A drier and cooler Saturday with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s will follow, making for a brisk but pleasant weekend start.

Looking into the weekend, another system moving in Sunday might bring much-needed rainfall to combat the increasing drought conditions in the region. “An area of low pressure could bring widespread rainfall Sunday into Sunday night,” the

National Weather Service

stated. The anticipated rainfall range is 0.25 to 0.50 inches, potentially higher over certain areas. Temperatures during this period should hover around early November averages.

Aviation and marine operations should prepare for sub-VFR conditions on Sunday and possible Small Craft Advisories as southerly winds precede the cold front before it sweeps through on Monday afternoon.

Regarding advisories, the NWS states no watches, warnings, or advisories are currently in place. However, mariners should know the potential need for Small Craft Advisories due to anticipated wind shifts and speeds. Keep a close eye on the forecasts if you plan to be out on the water this weekend or in the skies come Sunday.
