Baltimore Welcomes Milder Weather as NWS Predicts High Pressure and Drier Days Ahead

The Baltimore region is looking at a shift towards milder weather as high pressure is entering this weekend after the departure of recent low pressure.

National Weather Service

(NWS) Baltimore MD/Washington DC reported that rain chances will decrease as a slow-moving cold front clears the region, especially outside the mountain areas. In the latest area forecast discussion, high pressure is building, ushering in drier conditions and a rise to more moderate temperatures.

Today’s daytime hours will show a mixture of sun and clouds as the skies clear. Temperatures are expected to peak in the mid to upper 50s, though mountain locations might see a chillier range of 40s to low 50s. Overnight lows will drop to the comfort of the upper 30s and lower 40s. The weekend promises to dry out and warm up just slightly, with daytime highs forecasted to hit the upper 50s and low 60s, while mountainous areas should expect a touch cooler climate with ranges spanning from the upper 40s to mid-50s.

NWS notes that fire weather is a potential hazard for the central and northeast parts of Maryland, primarily due to a recent shortfall in rainfall and sustained drought conditions worsened by wind gusts, which are predicted to reach up to 20 knots on Saturday. These factors could lead to elevated fire concerns, so residents are urged to be vigilant. Despite these conditions, no significant weather impacts are forecasted for the next seven days. However, the situation will be monitored closely with the approaching Thanksgiving holiday travel period in mind.

Regarding aviation, potential flyers can anticipate improving circumstances throughout the day. “MVFR to patchy IFR vsbys and IFR to LIFR cigs will continue this morning as low pressure slowly exits the area,” says

. However, drivers expect better visibility and clear skies as the day proceeds.

As for the maritime body, Small Craft Advisory conditions will remain in effect across all waters through Saturday morning due to persistent gusty winds, though they’re expected to moderate heading into Sunday. On the tide front, minor coastal flooding is anticipated at specific locations like Annapolis and the Washington DC SW Waterfront, but levels are predicted to recede by tonight.

Baltimore residents can check the NWS’ official site or follow their local weather forecasts throughout the day for more detailed weather updates and advisory notices.
