The Baltimore Police Department is looking for a stolen Mazda with unexpected cargo: three cats belonging to a local woman. According to

, the vehicle was taken from S. Chester Street in Canton, where the owner had double-parked to unload items. According to police, the theft occurred just before 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and the car owner had left the key in the ignition with the engine running.

The cats’ owner, Shavonne Beachum, expressed her distress in an interview, cited by

Beachum and her daughter have been actively searching for the missing gray 2024 Mazda and their beloved pets, Clover and Squid, both of which are microchipped. They have taken to driving around the city late at night and utilizing social media to spread awareness. Beachum also attempts to track her car through an app, though she must wait for the vehicle to stop to pinpoint its location.

A police spokesperson acknowledged that the car theft was the only incident reported on the block within 30 days. Despite attempts to gather footage from neighbors’ doorbell cameras, efforts were hindered as some cameras were not operational at the time of the theft. “I just don’t understand why someone would watch me put the cats in the car and then steal the car,” Beachum stated, as per
