A reported house explosion on Joy Vic Drive in Bethel, Ohio, early this morning has resulted in the verified deaths of two people. According to a live update from FOX19, neighbors started phoning 911 at 8:44 a.m. to report a one-story ranch house on fire, according to Bethel-Tate Fire Chief Christopher Cooper. The explosion left behind enough debris to have an impact on the area.
Chief Cooper told FOX19 that workers came across a “heavy” amount of debris on their route to the scene. Two fatalities have been reported as a tragic result of the incident. Concurrently, a second male survivor was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for burn treatment. Sheriff Steve Leahy explained that the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office authorities are collaborating with the fire department, and that officers are securing local traffic to support the fire department’s efforts.
The explosion’s impact was so great that it caused damage to neighboring homes and was felt by locals. “I was asleep at around nine o’clock, and I was awakened by a massive explosion,” neighbor Derrick Gullett recalled in a WCPO interview. He recounted the terrifying experience of seeing a man fleeing the house with his hair still burning. According to reports, Gullett was informed by the same survivor that he was working on the home’s furnace when it erupted.
The office of the State Fire Marshal is leading ongoing investigations to identify the precise cause of the explosion. When workers arrived, the flaming house was still blazing, but they were able to contain it in forty-five minutes. During a WCPO interview, Chief Cooper stated that several cats had been discovered among the wreckage at the scene.
Until family members are notified, the names of the deceased have not yet been made public. Emergency services are still operating in the area, and locals should expect a protracted investigation presence as more information about this horrific incident becomes available. As authorities investigate the situation further, more updates are anticipated, and WHIO is dedicated to keeping a close eye on this issue.
