Authorities in the North Sacramento area have verified that a cyclist was killed after colliding with an SUV yesterday. The California Highway Patrol said that the collision happened shortly after noon in front of a shop on the 4700 block of Northgate Boulevard.
A man in his 40s was riding a bicycle south of Del Paso Boulevard when, for unknown reasons, he turned into the path of a Ford Bronco that was driving in the same direction, according to an ABC10 investigation.
The rider was thrown onto the car’s bonnet and into the windshield due to the collision’s extreme force. The rider was transferred to a hospital after suffering serious injuries, where he was later declared deceased, the CHP informed FOX40. Although this section of Northgate Boulevard lacks a designated bike lane, bikers frequently use the Sacramento Northern Bikeway, which runs adjacent to the street.
The man in his 20s who was driving the Ford Bronco remained at the site and was said to be unharmed. Officials have not disclosed any additional information, and investigations regarding the accident’s cause are still ongoing.
