A pursuit started when New Castle County Police attempted to stop him because the car he was driving had a bare rim.
On Friday afternoon at approximately 12:45, Delaware State Police officials reported that troopers were alerted about a pursuit by New Castle County Police involving a man driving a BMW with Pennsylvania plates, which was being operated on a bare rim.
Troopers began following the chase when the driver, identified as 22-year-old Thomas Casey from West Chester, was spotted traveling south into Middletown, Delaware, on State Route 1.
During the pursuit, pieces of the BMW started to come off, flying into the sky. A metal object, whose identity remains unknown, hit the hood of a DSP vehicle, causing a tear in the surface.

The metal brake caliper came loose from the car and struck the windshield of another DSP vehicle, nearly hitting the trooper inside.
As they neared Dover, authorities reported that Casey started to accelerate. Approximately 12 miles south of Dover, a trooper attempted to deploy traffic spikes. Casey noticed them just in time to swerve, almost colliding with the trooper who was positioned nearby. A trooper quickly moved aside to dodge the oncoming vehicle and stay safe.
A short while later, there was another effort to create traffic spikes, but it ended similarly. Casey swerved toward the trooper, who had to leap aside to avoid being struck.
Casey merged onto Exit 86 heading toward Frederica, but in the process, he collided with a traffic sign and crashed into a utility pole near a local store.
He exited the broken-down vehicle and attempted to flee, but officers caught him before he could escape.
Officials reported that he resisted, resulting in minor injuries to the troopers. Authorities reported that the officers observed Casey displaying ongoing signs of impairment.
A legal blood test was conducted after he was taken to a nearby barracks.
Casey faced charges including assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest with force, driving under the influence of a drug, and additional related offenses.
He is currently in custody at the Sussex Correctional Institution with a cash bond set at $50,877.
