Boston Braces for Sunny Days, Cold Nights, and Elevated Fire Risk, Coastal Areas on Alert for Minor Flooding

Residents of Boston and the surrounding areas are preparing for a blend of sunny days and chilly nights this week, alongside an Elevated Fire Risk due to dry conditions and brisk winds. Today’s forecast predicts sunny skies with a high near 47 degrees, and a north wind moving at 7 to 9 mph, according to the

National Weather Service

.

The cooler air won’t let up come nightfall, with temperatures expected to dip into the low 30s. “It’s sweater weather indeed,” reports

NBC Boston

, which also warns of an Elevated Fire Risk for the Commonwealth, advising against outdoor burning and urging residents practice fire safety through the day.

As we move into Friday and the weekend, the temperatures are expected to climb, reaching into the mid-50s on Friday and possibly hitting the low 60s by Monday. Despite the warming trend, the National Weather Service cautions that gusty northerly winds, especially on Friday, will heighten concerns for brush fires in southern New England.

Coastal areas are also on alert this morning, though impacts are expected to be minimal. “Roads remain passable. Shallow pockets of flooding less than one foot deep affect more vulnerable coastal roads along the North Shore from Salem and Gloucester to Newburyport,” the

National Weather Service reports

in their Coastal Flood Statement. Residents are advised to not drive through flooded roadways during the affected times from 8 AM to 11 AM EST.

Although an isolated shower may be on the horizon come Monday, the weather outlook doesn’t promise significant rain any time soon. The next best chance for precipitation is forecasted to arrive late next week, potentially providing relief from the dry conditions currently presenting fire hazards across the region.
