Boston Police Arrest 13-Year-Old Suspected of Carrying Loaded Firearm Near Charter School in Dorchester

A 13-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody by Boston Police Department officers yesterday after they allegedly discovered him in possession of a handgun in Dorchester. According to the official Boston Police Department website, the incident happened close to the Neighborhood Charter School at 197 Centre St. Students told the police they saw someone carrying a gun.

Officers arrived after receiving a radio message describing two young people and their car, which turned out to be stolen. Police saw the described vehicle when they arrived at Cheverus St., and one of the youths got out of the car while the other remained inside. Both appeared to be attentive, scanning their surroundings as though to rapidly evaluate potential escape routes.

The minor suspects were asked to sit on the ground when the authorities arrived. A chase ensued after one of the young people, who had been behind the wheel before, ignored the police order and started to flee. Officers saw the guy clutching his waistline during the pursuit, and just before he was caught, they saw him throw something over a fence.

Following a thorough search, a silver and black Smith and Wesson SD40VE.40 Caliber pistol was found in a mound of leaves. The police report stated that the firearm was loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition and did not have a serial number. After verifying the weapon’s details on the spot, police had the stolen car towed.

The minor was taken into custody and is facing several charges linked to firearms, such as trespassing, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and carrying a handgun without a license. In the Dorchester District Court, he is anticipated to be arraigned. There haven’t been many updates on the case because it involves a juvenile.
