Earlier yesterday, Boston police apprehended a man in Roxbury after recognizing his vehicle as one linked to a recent firearm incident. Garvis Arias-Lara, 28, from Dorchester, was arrested following a vehicle stop at the intersection of Humboldt Ave. and Ruthven St.
The incident occurred at about 1:15 AM when officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle traveling towards Martin Luther King Blvd. Officers managed to quickly identify and to subsequently halt Arias-Lara’s car. Upon approach, officers identified both the operator and the passenger as persons of interest related to the previous incident from Friday, which also involved a firearm, as perBoston Police Department.
During an investigation of the car’s occupants, officers discovered a firearm concealed within a natural void of the vehicle’s driver’s side door panel. The Boston Police Department reported that detectives from District B-2 arrived on the scene and ascertained that the concealed weapon was a black “ghost gun,” which is a type of firearm lacking a serial number and therefore difficult to trace. The gun had no round in the chamber but contained eight 9mm rounds in a Glock magazine.
Arias-Lara is set to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court facing multiple charges, including Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. The arrest highlights ongoing concerns over untraceable weapons and their role in street-level violence, a problem that law enforcement agencies are striving to better understand and more effectively stop.
