According to the City of Boulder, Boulder, which is well-known for its beautiful scenery and progressive culture, has once again received praise for its outstanding support of the LGBTQ+ community, earning a perfect score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index (MEI) for the fifth consecutive year. Boulder routinely ranks first out of hundreds of cities assessed nationwide in the MEI, an annual assessment of how inclusive municipalities are. It considers nondiscrimination laws, municipal services, law enforcement, and the representation of LGBTQ+ people in leadership roles.
