Boulder Police Seek Public’s Help in Identifying Suspect Accused of Assaulting Blind Man on Trail

A person who is suspected of physically abusing a blind man on the Fourmile Canyon Creek Trail earlier this month is being sought by the Boulder Police Department. According to KDVR, the incident happened at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, when an anonymous bystander hit the blind victim on the shoulder and called him a “schmuck.”

With the use of a screen reader, the victim, who is blind, managed to take a picture of the culprit before he left the scene. Denver 7 reports that at the time of the attack, the blind guy was with his marked service dog. In order to take a picture of the suspect and share it with law authorities as part of the ongoing investigation, he used a screen reader, which is a gadget that reads text aloud on a screen.

The victim urged the man to wait until the police were called, which was a noteworthy act of civil duty given how abrupt the attack was. However, the suspect refused to cooperate and fled the scene. Using the victim’s given photo, the Boulder Police Department is attempting to identify the individual. According to The Denver Gazette, the picture shows the possible suspect with a small white dog, indicating that the attacker was also a dog walker at the time of the fight.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about this incident to come forward since they have taken the accusations seriously. The Boulder Police Department is still requesting help from the public in the hopes that someone would recognize the culprit in the picture that the victim, who is blind but quick-witted, took. The case emphasizes the particular difficulties faced by people with disabilities as well as the community’s responsibility to protect vulnerable groups from unjustified violence.
