Brookline Man Indicted in Middlesex for Alleged Pregnancy Termination Drug Deception

43-year-old Robert Kawada from Brookline is facing serious charges after being indicted by a Middlesex Grand Jury. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Watertown Police Chief Justin Hanrahan explained the charges. Killing someone with poison, hitting someone with a dangerous object, and hitting a family member or member of the home are some of the charges against Kawada. The Middlesex District Attorney’s Officer says Kawada tricked a woman he was dating into taking drugs that would end her pregnancy.

When Kawada found out that the woman was pregnant, she is said to have ordered the abortion drugs Misoprostol and Mifepristone online using the name of another woman. To get the victim to believe him, Kawada told her to take iron pills, using the fact that his father was an Obstetrics and Gynecology doctor as an excuse. The suspect is said to have even set up a call from someone pretending to be a nurse to the victim, saying that recent test results showed the victim had low iron.

Kawada put more pressure on the victim when he went to her house, mentioning the nurse’s call, and gave her what he said were iron pills. Because these pills caused a miscarriage, it was found that they were actually the drugs meant to end the pregnancy. Later, the victim said that the pill was similar to one that causes miscarriages, which showed a dark twist in trust and deceit.

The investigation showed that the nurse’s supposed phone number did not belong to a medical center, and Kawada had called this number before, which made the plot more complicated. While Kawada is being arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court, the case will be handled by attorneys Jacob McCrindle and Kailey Verni, with help from Victim Witness Advocate Arianne Dubina.
