Brooklyn Man Convicted: Assault on Officers During Capitol Siege Earns New Yorker a Date with Justice

Mitchell Bosch, 44, of Brooklyn, New York, was found guilty of assaulting police officers during the Capitol incident on January 6. According to a recent Justice Department release, the verdict came after a trial in which evidence identified Bosch as one of the rioters who rushed the U.S. Capitol, disrupting Congress’s session to certify the 2020 election results.

Bosch faces four misdemeanor charges, including entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds and disorderly conduct in a capitol building, among others. The federal jury in Washington, D.C., found Bosch guilty of civil disorder, assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers. Sentencing is scheduled for April 14, 2025. According to the same news release, video footage from the day shows Bosch at the forefront of the altercation, pushing against the riot shields of the policemen and driving the crowd’s might against the police barricade as cries of “U.S.A. U.S.A.” erupted.

Video from the trial showed Bosch’s combative demeanor as he resisted the officers’ attempts to quell the disturbance, occasionally spearheading attacks on police lines and motivating the rest of the unruly mob. Indisputable proof of Bosch’s involvement in the violent upheaval that questioned America’s reputation for a peaceful handover of power can be found in the recordings of his interactions with law enforcement at the Capitol’s Northwest Courtyard.

Over 1,561 people nationwide have been charged in the post-Jan. 6 investigations, including over 590 for assaulting or obstructing law enforcement. The FBI is still looking for information about other people involved in the siege and encourages the public to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or provide tips online. Bosch is currently facing punishment for his involvement in that January day that rocked the country after being detained on February 14.
