U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel in Brownsville, Texas, have once again shown their diligence by apprehending a significant amount of drugs in two different enforcement operations. The total estimated street value of the drugs that were seized comes to a hefty $768,867. This announcement, which focused on the continuous fight against drug trafficking across U.S. borders, was taken directly from the official CBP news release.
The first incident happened on a Tuesday when a 37-year-old American citizen tried to drive a 2010 Nissan into the country. Following what started off as a standard primary search at the Gateway International Bridge, CBP officers discovered nine concealed packages containing 21.95 pounds of purported cocaine with the use of a canine unit and a non-intrusive inspection equipment. Two days after the first incident, a 28-year-old Baytown, Texas man was sent for a secondary inspection while driving his 2006 Hummer across the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge. Officers found 15 packages there that contained 35.62 pounds of what looked to be cocaine.
Port Director Tater Ortiz, speaking on behalf of the Brownsville Port of Entry, stated, “Our CBP officers are relentless in their efforts to keep our borders secure, and their diligence led to these significant drug seizures,” per the CBP news release. Along with the vehicles, the drugs were recovered, dealing a tangible blow to the drug smuggling attempts that constantly pose a threat to border security.
