Burn Victims With “NO SKIN” Airlifted to Arizona After Deadly Hawaii Fireworks Explosion

DDN – According to officials at the Arizona Burn Center, the victims were transported from Hawaii to be treated following a terrible fireworks explosion last week. They sustained burns to half or nearly their whole bodies.

The explosion occurred at a New Year’s Eve event in Aliamanu, Oahu. According to officials, a fireworks “cake” holding approximately 50 illegal aerial rockets spilled over and was fired into a carport, setting off other pyrotechnics.

At least four people were killed, and 20 were injured, including a three-year-old kid who died early Monday. He was recognized as Cassius Ramos-Benigno.

Due to overcrowded hospitals in Hawaii, numerous survivors were transferred to Phoenix over the weekend.

“These are patients with over half of their bodies burned and have no skin,” Dr. Kevin Foster, director of the Valleywise Health Diane and Bruce Halle Arizona Burn Center, told Arizona’s Family in recent days. It was later revealed that six people ranging in age from 27 to 38 are being treated in the Valley.

On Monday, it was found that the six victims had burns covering 45% to 80% of their bodies. All victims required intubation, and many needed emergency surgery before being safely transferred.

“In addition to the flame injuries, there were numerous explosions and particulates in the air. And practically everyone has several projectile injuries, some severe, some not so severe,” Foster said at an afternoon news conference.

Furthermore, Foster explained that, while the burn center has treated patients from other states before, this is a particularly uncommon situation.

“We’ve never had this experience with direct transfers from Hawaii, especially with this many patients and this level of acuity.” “So this is unique,” Foster explained.

Foster estimated that it could take months for these individuals to fully recover.

Valleywise Health, which manages the institution, claims it has one of the greatest survival rates in the country, at more than 98%.
