Cabarrus County Honors Wendy Gainey’s Legacy with Charity Christmas Trees in Concord

As the holiday season approaches, Cabarrus County is preparing to display the Wendy Gainey Memorial Christmas Tree in the rotunda of its Government Center for the twentieth year. The tree, along with others at the Concord Active Living Center and county library branches, aims to help fulfill local wishes and meet needs during the holiday season, according to theCabarrus County.

The Gainey Trees, set up byCabarrus CountyHelping Hearts and Hands, are a local holiday tradition. The trees feature tags with Christmas wishes from children, senior citizens, and veterans. Items on the tags range from toys and video games to essentials like socks and soap. Residents and county employees are invited to select a tag and help fulfill someone’s holiday wish. The trees are a part of the county’s annual efforts to support the community during the holiday season.

To participate in the holiday charity, simply pick a gift tag from the tree and sign the sheet beside it. Then, purchase the items listed on the tag and return the unwrapped gifts in an open bag labeled with the tag ID number by December 2nd. The drop-off location is next to the tree. This charity effort, renamed in 2011 to honor Wendy Gainey, as reported by theCabarrus County.
