When we hear about a murder that happens nearby, we often watch the news with a feeling of horror. It’s normal to feel uneasy if there was a murder nearby, but overall, your neighborhood is probably safe.

We used Saturday Night Science to compare the FBI crime data on murders for the 44 cities in Pennsylvania with over 6,000 residents. This helped us find the cities in Pennsylvania with the most murders and the highest murder rates per capita.

Method to Calculate the Murder Capitals of Pennsylvania

We wanted to avoid relying on speculation and opinion, so instead of surveys and public polls, we looked for other sources to determine which cities in a state are the most dangerous. Instead, we used Saturday Night Science to compare the actual numbers from the FBI’s most recent report. We examined the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, which provides a yearly summary of the number of murders in each city.

We examined all the cities in Pennsylvania that had available FBI data for the most recent FBI Crime In The United States report. We had 44 cities left to rank.

We used the number of murders per person as the basis for ranking. Wilkinsburg has the highest number of murders per person, according to the most recent data. We have ranked the places in Pennsylvania with the highest number of murders per person for the tenth time. The list for 2024 has been updated.
