California City Listed as Happiest Place in New Research

WalletHub has found that Fremont, California, is the happiest place in the United States. There is no one way to explain or describe happiness, but WalletHub researchers found that income is one reason why people in the Bay Area city are happy.

According to the poll, about 80% of Fremont residents make more than $75,000 a year, which is the highest percentage of any of the 182 biggest cities in the country. A major study from 2010 found that making more money can make you happier, but only up to $75,000 a year.

“On average, someone who lives in poverty is less happy than someone who makes enough to pay their bills, get good health care, save some money, and take a vacation every once in a while,” said Matthew Joseph, an associate professor at Duquesne University.

“And the 1% are probably a lot happier on average than the poor person in the first place, but not much happier (if at all) than the poor person in the second place.” Even though people say they are happy as their income goes up above this level, another study from 2021 disagrees with that study’s results.

The poll also found that people in Fremont are very happy with their lives and don’t feel depressed very often. Also, most people in the city have lived there for a long time. The low rate of divorce and split in Fremont is another thing that makes people there happy. It is the lowest in the country at 8.9 percent.

Residents of Fremont also “seem to be taking care of themselves psychologically,” according to the study, since the fewest adults there said they had 14 or more mentally unhealthy days in the last month.
