California ‘micronation’ offering incentive for fathers, children charged with burglary, vandalism
The Southern California “micronation” of Slowjamastan is offering a $1,000 cash reward for the arrest of a group of fathers and their children who reportedly burglarized and destroyed their property.
The Republic of Slowjamastan, three miles south of Imperial County in Ocotillo Wells, San Diego County, released a statement saying two dads brought their young children to “commit multiple crimes.”
Two men and three children are seen and heard wandering around the property’s “border” gate in the Slowjamastan release and YouTube video, which began around 7:10 p.m. on Dec. 14 and lasted about an hour.
According to the timestamp, they joyfully ran around the area while openly discussing vandalism and burglary for 45 minutes before returning to the guard tower.
A Slowjamastan official apparently spotted the activities and called the group, telling them they were on videotape and forcing them to leave and pay for any damage.
One of the men noticed the working camera while deciding whether to call or text the person who contacted them. After briefly stepping out of frame, the other man assured him that it was fake, battery-operated, and motion-detecting, meaning it would turn off if they didn’t move.
They enter the guard shack and find a “fake dummy camera” box, which makes everyone laugh and calms them down.
After breaking into the guard shack, the kids are allowed to steal and claim the objects as theirs.
They kept taking items from the guard shack, including a mannequin, placards, and boxes, and even had one man hold the stolen things at his house until the next day.
One man asked the kids what they thought of their conduct after loading the stolen stuff into their SUV. The youngsters said, “This was awesome.”
They returned to lift the guard shack floor to seek for other items to take, even though the ringleader thought there was probably nothing inside.
After finding nothing valuable, they decided to “leave [the items] for someone else” and suggested returning.
After several more minutes of stealing from the guard station, the kids suggested putting some of the stuff in their rooms. One sang SpongeBob SquarePants’ “Best Day Ever” as they got in the car and left.
