Cambridge residents, mark your calendars for December 1 because that’s when you can start renewing your residential and visitor parking permits online, with the renewal period stretching until March 31, 2025. For those who prefer a face-to-face interaction, in-person permit renewal begins January 2, 2025, at the City of Cambridge Traffic, Parking, and Transportation Department, located at 344 Broadway, as reported by theCity of Cambridgewebsite.

To ensure uninterrupted parking privileges, apply before March 2; permits wont’ start being mailed out until early January and remember you can use your 2024 permit until the end of March however from April 1, be sure to display the new 2025 sticker. To apply for a parking permit, residents will need to provide proof of residency in the form of a recent utility bill or two pieces of mail, and vehicle registration must match the Cambridge address provided, though long-term residents of three years or more at the same address are exempt from providing proof of residency every year.

There’s a fee of $25 for each Resident Parking Permit, which, good news, includes one Visitor Parking Permit per household, although households without a vehicle can grab a Visitor Permit for the same price. What’s more, for those aged 65 and up, or anyone with a disability plate or placard, permits are completely free. But don’t forget, all outstanding parking fines need to be cleared before applying.

Be mindful of where you place the permit as it must be affixed to the inside lower driver’s side corner of your vehicle’s windshield, clear off the old ones too this is important so there’s no confusion for parking enforcement officers. And for a bit of local art with your compliance, the 2025 Resident Parking Sticker features “Graffiti Alley,” chosen from 275 submissions, thanks to Mary Leno’s photograph of the vibrant artistic hotspot that captures the creative spirit of Central Square, as per theCity of Cambridge.
