Celebrate Cinco de Mayo With These Metro Detroit Events

F.From live outdoor performances and a virtual parade to a tequila class and yummy taco pop-ups, here’s a look at the Cinco de Mayo celebrations taking place on Metro Detroit this year. Fiesta Detroit

Somos Culture Creators – a subsidiary of the local collective We Are Culture Creators that serves the Latinx arts community in Detroit – and Fiesta Vibes have teamed up to organize a week of events to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. The main event, Fiesta Detroit, takes place on May 1st and includes 20 vendors, four corrido bands, breakdancing, international bigtime wrestling, DJs and more. Cinco de Mayo in Beacon Park

This community event features live music by Detroit’s Groupo Escobar and DJ Sabor, salsa and cumbia dance performance and lessons from Detroit Dance Loft, and a performance by the Mexican folk dance group Raices Mexicanas de Detroit. Attendees are invited to eat from the nearby Lumen Detroit restaurant and the Los Dos Amigos Taco Truck and Pablo’s Tacos food trucks. No costs; Pre-registration is required. 2.May. Cinco de Mayo with Dixon’s violin & friends out at Voyager

Ferndale Seafood Spot Voyager is holding Cinco de Mayo festivities outside of its restaurant this year. Enjoy music from local artists Dixon’s Violin, an improvised violinist who has given three TED lectures / performances; Singer-songwriter Marbrisa, who plays a mixture of Latin, jazz, funk and folk music; and Royal Grand, a melodic group inspired by Americana, rock, funk, and the Grateful Dead. Voyager serves a menu of crab nachos, crispy fish tacos, pork belly tacos, sweet potato tacos, laden lobster burritos, and churros. Social distancing must be observed and masks must be worn unless you are consuming food or drink in a specific area. Virtual celebration of the Cinco de Mayo in southwest Detroit

In lieu of face-to-face events, the Metro Detroit Mexican Patriotic Committee, the COVID313 Coalition for Families and Students, and Detroit Public Television are coming together to host the second Cinco de May virtual celebration in southwest Detroit. The event will include performances by traditional Mexican folk dancers and entertainers, videos from previous Cinco de Mayo parades, and embassies from the Mexican Consulate in Detroit and southwest Detroit. Cinco de Mayo in York Yard

Ypsilanti Taco Pop-up and Small Series Hot Sauce Store Lucha Puerco opens this Cinco de Mayo in York Yard in Ann Arbor. Cinco de Mayo at Las Tortugas Taqueria Sterling Heights

Catch a performance by the local music group Eslabón norteño de Detroit at Las Tortugas Taqueria on the Cinco de Mayo in Las Tortugas Taqueria. The authentic Mexican restaurant also hosts freebies in honor of the holiday, and guests can enjoy drinks and foods such as queso dip, enchiladas, fajitas, and quesadillas. No entry fee. 5th of May. Tequila Education Class and Tequila Tasting with Don Julio Tequila

Detroit Shipping Co. invites locals 21 and older to enjoy a tequila class and try this Cinco de Mayo. A Don Julio expert will teach the class, which includes tasting samples of four different types of tequila. You will also receive a drinks menu for a Don Julio cocktail and two grocery stamps to use at any Detroit Shipping Co. restaurant. Amado Lopez, a classically trained Mexican chef who runs the metro pop-up Taqueria Casa Amado in Detroit, is taking over the Joebar from Hazel Park on Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo at EMBC

Spend the evening at Eastern Market Brewing Co. celebrating Cinco de Mayo with an order of Margarita Goose, a beer brewed with lemons, limes, oranges, and pink Himalayan sea salt, and food from the brewery’s neighbor, Jose’s Tacos.
