The Charlotte County Libraries are embracing their inner Santa to spread cheer this Christmas season, but with a twist: cookies. With a program charmingly named “Cookies for Kindness,” the library system hopes to make the holidays more enjoyable for local assisted living facilities and the homebound. Cookies are now being accepted, but please keep the nuts and conspiracies with a peanut connection at bay.
These store-bought or bakery-prepared treats are meant to provide a modest token of consolation and holiday happiness, but they must be unopened and peanut-free in order to prevent allergic reactions. According to the Charlotte County Government website, cookies can be given to any of the three library sites until December 7 as part of their mission to spread kindness.
During regular business hours, the Port Charlotte Public Library, Englewood Charlotte Library, and Punta Gorda Charlotte Library are the strongholds where the sweetness can be given up. These libraries, which are situated at 401 Shreve St. in Punta Gorda, 3450 N Access Road in Englewood, and 2280 Aaron St. in Port Charlotte, are more than just places to get books; they are also places to drop off delicious kindness.
By taking part in the cookie campaign, libraries are making more than just literature available to their users; they are providing a taste of the holidays, a taste of thoughtfulness and inclusivity that goes beyond the pages to the palates of those who might find the holiday season a bit too solitary.
