Two men from Charlotte have been handed prison sentences for their roles in a bank robbery, with a third accomplice having pled guilty, as announced today by U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina Dena J. King. Sherrod Davidson, Jr., 33, will serve 139 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release, and Rashad Jackson, 44, received a sentence of 84 months with the same terms of supervised release after. Dominique Duggins, 33, has entered a guilty plea and is currently awaiting his sentencing, as reported by

The narrative of the crime, as detailed in court documents and proceedings, began on September 9, 2020, when Davidson, Jackson, and Duggins set out to forcefully take what was not theirs. Court filings indicate that two employees of Garda World Cash Services were servicing an ATM in Charlotte when the trio executed their plan, with Davidson and Duggins confronting the workers while Jackson positioned himself to quickly drive away from the impending crime scene. The scheme was to soon unravel, as authorities pieced together the involvement of each individual, instigated in part by the prior employment of Duggins at Garda World Cash Services, which he had lost just months before the audacious robbery attempt.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Charlotte Division, and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) were acknowledged by U.S. Attorney King for their investigative work that led to the convictions. “Today’s announcement,” affirmed Robert M. DeWitt, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Charlotte, alongside CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings, marking the collective effort of federal and local law enforcement.
The guilty pleas from Davidson and Jackson were entered on June 28, with Davidson acknowledging bank robbery and aiding and abetting, while Jackson admitted to possession and brandishing of a firearm during a crime of violence. Both men are currently being held in federal custody and will be eventually transferred to a federal prison facility. The exact date for Duggins’ sentencing remains to yet be set, an echo of a justice whose gears grind at their own measured pace. The prosecution of this case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Boykin of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence, ensuring safer communities. U.S. Attorney King noted the importance of the program and its reinforcement, on May 26, 2021, by a violent crime reduction strategy. This endeavor, as underscored by the Department, is based on tenets of fostering trust within communities, supporting violence-preventive organizations, focusing on strategic enforcement priorities, and the essential task of measuring outcomes.
