Charlotte Man Charged with Murder and Kidnapping Following Secret Service-Facilitated Arrest

A man suspected of a fatal shooting last month in southwest Charlotte has been taken into custody with assistance from the Secret Service.

reports that 41-year-old Shamario Tyeast Bethea was arrested and charged with murder, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection to the death of Curtis Gregory Lampkin.

On October 7, Lampkin, who was 24 years old, was discovered with a gunshot wound on the 400 block of Peachtree Drive, near Interstate 77. Despite being tasked with protecting national security, the Secret Service played a role in the arrest, as noted by the

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Hickory Police Department, and the United States Secret Service collaborated in the arrest, which took place yesterday. Lampkin’s body was initially found by a local dog walker who stumbled upon the grim scene.

shared the account of Amanda Hebblethwaite who said, “I had him on a longer lead, and he started pulling really hard into the woods,” leading to the discovery of Lampkin’s body.

Hebblethwaite, who runs a dog day care and lodging business, expressed her concern about the safety in the area prior to the incident, citing suspicious vehicles and requesting extra police patrols for months. Prior to making the arrest, detectives had worked to piece together the circumstances leading up to Lampkin’s death, resulting in Bethea’s arrest over a month after the fatal shooting.
