Chicago Man Charged with Felony Murder and Arson in 2023 Case, Detention Hearing Set

Chicago authorities have confirmed the arrest of a local man in connection with a murder and arson case dating back to May of last year. Joshua Mims, age 37, from the 1900 block of S. Troy, is facing serious charges after being apprehended by the Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.

reports indicate that Mims has been charged with one felony count of first-degree murder and one felony count of aggravated arson.

Following the arrest which happened on November 12, charged with fatally shooting a 32-year-old female and then setting her residence ablaze, Mims was identified as the main suspect. The incident, occurring within the 6400 block of S. Damen, reportedly took place last spring and has since been under investigation. It’s not every day that authorities come upon the alleged offender nearly one and a half years after the crime, culminating in a collaborative effort between local police and the U.S. Marshals during an operation in the 900 block of S. Kedzie.

As the case unfolds, a detention hearing has been scheduled for today, at 2600 S. California.
