Following a catastrophic outage that spread through the region, City Light subscribers have been gradually regaining power. More than 110,000 customers have had their service restored since the original blackout, indicating that the energy company is making every effort to turn the lights back on. In an official statement, City Light stated that “restoring electricity to homes and businesses is our highest priority and we are committed to restoring your power as quickly and safely as possible.”
According to the most recent communication, teams have been assigned to the 21 outages that still affect more than a few customers per. As the utility personnel complete one of them, they move on to the next, following a methodical process. Although they are still early, specific estimated times of restoration (ETORs) are being offered as the situations are evaluated. Additionally, City Light stated in an online article, “Once crews complete a restoration, they will move on to those remaining.”
In order to protect the wellbeing of the community, the first priority was to restore important institutions like schools and hospitals. The remaining outages, however, are accompanied by problems like fallen trees and obstructed roadways, making the current restoration work difficult, City Light notes. Neighboring utilities have been asked to provide mutual aid in order to intensify efforts, supporting the local teams.
City Light’s outage map now shows updated ETORs, however the company notes that these are estimates and could vary. Citing today’s windy weather that could cause more problems, City Light said, “We apologize for the continued inconvenience,” and asked consumers to remain alert. King County has offered a list of tools to help citizens deal with the power outages, and the utility company has also made information available through their blog article on Outage Tips.
