A violent behavior by two youths against a 61-year-old woman in Cleveland has been captured on shocking video. The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor has pushed for the teenagers to be charged as adults after the woman, who was with her pets, was brutally carjacked. According to FOX8, the teenagers, who are 14 and 17 years old and whose identities have been suppressed because they are considered juveniles, were photographed on October 31 outside the Thurgood Marshall Recreation Center on Hough Avenue.
It shows the younger kid stealing the woman’s car keys and throwing them to the 17-year-old. The footage of the events was acquired by FOX8. The woman made an effort to stop them from stealing her vehicle. But when the 14-year-old produced a pistol with an extended magazine, the altercation swiftly became more intense. During this altercation, the older adolescent kicked one of the woman’s pets. She struggled, even drawing a taser, but was eventually overcome, and the attackers took off with her car.
The same two people are also connected to more illegal activities. They tried to take another automobile at Cleveland State University shortly after the carjacking, according to a statement made public by FOX8. Shortly after, the 17-year-old allegedly attempted to run over two females while demanding a ski mask, according to Cleveland’s News 5 Cleveland. The girls barely avoided being hit by the car after defying his commands.
Prosecutor Michael O. Malley is urging the court to take adult charges against the offenders in an effort to counteract the increase in juvenile criminality. The degree of violence displayed by the teenagers alarmed O’Malley, who told FOX8 that “Anybody who’s capable of doing that for no reason other than to steal a hat has to be taken off the street.” Citing a rise in youth gun violence, he emphasized the growing problem of juvenile delinquency. “Sadly we see videos like that almost daily in this office,” he complained.
The teens racked up charges of aggravated robbery, with further investigation into a crime spree including car break-ins and police chases, according to Cleveland 19 News. While addressing the deeper societal issue, O’Malley also called for more parental involvement. “I don t know where the parents of these individuals are, but somebody is raising these kids and somebody should know where they re at and what they re doing,” he stated to Fox 8.
