Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade Honors United Way’s Cindy Aubrey with Inspirational Leader Award

The city of Colorado Springs reported that United Way CEO and President Cindy Aubrey was honored Thursday night during her retirement celebration when she was given the Inspirational Leader Spirit of Colorado Springs Award by Mayor Yemi Mobolade. Aubrey received recognition for her unwavering dedication to the community and her part in propelling the neighborhood nonprofit to unprecedented heights. The award recognizes her efforts in addressing some of the most difficult issues facing the community and is granted for outstanding leadership that inspires others.

According to the City of Colorado Springs, Mayor Yemi said, “Cindy Aubrey is an inspiration to all of us,” expressing how highly Aubrey is regarded for her leadership and advocacy. In addition to encouraging collaborations between charitable organizations, Aubrey has been a steadfast advocate for Colorado Springs’ most marginalized residents, leaving what the mayor called a “indelible mark” on the neighborhood.

As a Mitchell High School alumnus and Colorado native, Aubrey’s professional path reflects her commitment to her hometown. She led several departments at Fox 21 and KOAA with skill for almost 20 years. According to the City of Colorado Springs, Aubrey rose to fame as Chief Communications Officer for Colorado Springs, effectively managing the spread of vital information during the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest fire situations.

Aubrey used her experience to greatly increase the influence of Pikes Peak United Way in her next position, which led to projects like the Family Success Center in southeast Colorado Springs. During her time as President and CEO, she took use of United Way’s centennial celebration to establish new relationships that would empower the local community. These achievements and her impact were highlighted in the city’s release as being representative of the attributes that the Inspirational Leader Spirit of the Springs Award aims to honor.
