The Columbus Police Department is reaching out to the community seeking assistance in the murder investigation of 16-year-old Me Khi Keys, who was fatally shot in the early hours of October 30. According to the police report, the incident occurred on the 1000 block of E. Weber Rd. just after midnight, when officers arrived to find Keys wounded. He was quickly transported to Riverside Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The circumstances leading to this tragedy have been partially reconstructed thanks to witness accounts and surveillance footage. Keys, alongside a friend, was walking west on the south sidewalk of E. Weber Rd. At the same time, two males, one in a dark coat with a red hood and the other in a yellow or tan jacket and light pants were headed eastbound. The interaction between Keys and the suspects led to the male in the lighter-colored coat crossing the street and shooting Keys. After the shooting, it is reported that both suspects fled eastward along E. Weber Rd. and then south on Howie Rd.
To further the investigation, authorities have released images and a short video of the suspects, who were captured east of E. Weber Rd before the shooting. The Columbus Police Department has set up an online portal for community members to upload any additional footage from the evening of October 29 or the early morning hours of October 30 that might have captured the suspects. This video evidence can be directly submitted to detectives through a provided link or QR code in theColumbus Division of Police media release.
