“Dear summer, I know that you missed me. Because we were together like Nike Airs and crisp T-shirts.” Jay – Z Dear summer

Thank you for the answer and love. Detroit is Different So far, all of you have been encouraging. I have garnered more support and I appreciate it.

The theme for July 2014 is “Summer”. I’ll be sharing more music, stories, and places that captured a Detroit Summer (call Jenny Lee and the Detroit Summer students!).

Also in July I will start my artistic campaign “43 in 67.” “43 in 67” is an artistic endeavor in which I will do a series of 43 presentations in 67 days. The campaign title is inspired by the Detroit uprisings of 1943 and 1967.

The ’43 in 67 ‘campaign starts on Wednesday, July 23rd and ends on Saturday, September 27th. The starting event has yet to be determined. The closing event will be my “If Detroit Was Heaven” Detroit drama-style narration. This is on display at the 5th Hip-Hop Art Gallery in Detroit’s First Unitarian-Universalist Church at 4605 Cass Ave. in the Wayne State University district of Detroit. The gallery is an alternative multidisciplinary art organization that presents and supports contemporary artists and their work.

My goal is to perform at a diverse event collective in order to reach an expansive audience between the generations. Strategically, I will develop a social media campaign that will collect email addresses, Facebook friendships and Instagram and Twitter followers. This social media campaign will contain a collection of images and messages telling the story of the ’43 in 67 ‘campaign including its historical design.

I have chosen three songs to perform during the ’43 in 67 ‘campaign:

  1. “If Detroit Was Heaven” An imaginative take on the people, places, and things that I believe would set the framework for Detroit if it were heaven. This song refers to many of the strong political and social figures of the Black Power in Detroit who played prominent roles in the 1970s through 1990s.
  1. “It’s so fresh” it’s about my relationship with my maternal grandmother, wives in my family, and older cousins. The song is told from my childhood perspective.
  1. “That’s it!” is about a hip-hop and pun based song about my beliefs about metaphysical philosophy.
