Commissioner Anthony Rodriguez Elected as Chairman with Kionne L. McGhee as Vice Chair in Miami-Dade County Leadership Shake-Up

With the election of two prominent members of the board, Commissioner Anthony Rodriguez as Chairman and Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee as Vice Chairman, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners has experienced a dramatic change in leadership. According to Miami-Dade County District 10, the statement follows a unanimous board vote yesterday.

Chairman Rodriguez began his term on Nov. 22, 2022, following his election earlier that year. During his tenure in the Florida House of Representatives, Rodriguez demonstrated a track record of securing state funding for local organizations, fostering support for community pillars such as Casa Familia and the WOW Center, and his involvement with the Miami-Dade CountryFest and Zoo Miami reflects this commitment. Rodriguez shared, “I am grateful to my colleagues for putting their trust in me, and I look forward to working with each of you as we shape the future of our County,” Miami-Dade County District 10.

Chairman Rodriguez will oversee the board’s decision-making process. He is responsible for selecting committee chairpersons and members, managing complex issues like Intergovernmental Affairs, the Jay Malina International Trade Consortium, and BCC Media, and making sure the board’s nine offices run smoothly.

Vice Chairman McGhee, who has been involved with the Board since his election to the Florida House in 2012, joins Rodriguez in leading it. He brings his legal expertise and commitment to serving the public to the table, which is further demonstrated by his work with groups like the Florida Trial Lawyers Association and the Wilkie D. Ferguson Bar Association as well as his book “Conquering Hope: The Life You Were Destined to Live.” Echoing Rodriguez’s service-oriented mission, he said, “We are here for the people, to support the people, and to work for the people,” according to the same news release.
