Connecticut Man Extradited After Allegedly Killing Mother and Child Over Car Rental Payments

A Connecticut man faces many counts in the murders of a mother and her young son, alleging that he killed them for money the lady owed him.

Lance “Macho” Morales, 23, made his initial appearance in a Hartford, Connecticut, courtroom on Monday.

Morales is suspected of killing Jessiah Mercado, 20, and her four-month-old son Messiah Diaz in a drive-by shooting on November 19.

According to an arrest warrant, Morales opened fire on the automobile in which the two were traveling because Mercado owed him $400 for using his Mazda SUV, according to the AP.

He was charging her $100 a day to hire the vehicle, and she apparently fell behind on the payments.

Before the fatal shooting in broad daylight, Morales and Mercado exchanged words, during which she informed him that her young boy was inside the SUV.

According to the AP, a witness informed police that Morales claimed he didn’t care. Two other persons were in the car during the heinous crime, but only one was injured.

Morales’ pistol was thought to be fully automatic, according to the arrest warrant.

Following the fatal shooting, Morales was the subject of a large four-day manhunt before being caught in Puerto Rico on November 23.

He was extradited to Connecticut on Saturday.

Morales has been charged with two charges of murder, assault, and other felonies, and if convicted, he would face life in jail without parole.

During Monday’s court session, he was ordered jailed on $5 million bail.
