Coral Springs and Parkland Collaborate in Land Swap to Make Way for New Luxury Fitness Center

The cities of Coral Springs and Parkland have made strides in the redefinition of the South Florida suburban landscape with a newly approved land transfer. An 8.5-acre parcel of what was once the Heron Bay Golf Course, located in Coral Springs, will soon be annexed by the neighboring city of Parkland as they lay the groundwork for the introduction of a new Life Time Fitness facility. This development is part of a grander scheme to significantly transform the area into a mixed-use enclave bustling with commercial and residential activity.

In an effort to simplify and make more practical the planning process for the future center of health and leisure, Coral Springs has conceded control of the said land. As

reported, city attorney John Hearn pointed out that transferring jurisdiction to Parkland “just makes planning sense.” A previous workshop between the two cities paved the road for officials to agree on this rational consolidation of land under Parkland’s governance, an area which was purchased from the North Springs Improvement District back in 2022.

As this municipal reshuffle unfolds, Parkland gears up to accommodate the Life Time facility—an upscale gym known for its holistic wellness offerings. The basic membership, starting at a ballpark of $100, grants patrons access to a suite of amenities including swimming pools, luxe locker rooms, and a myriad of fitness classes. Expanding far beyond a mere workout venue, Life Time aims to be a cornerstone of Parkland’s visionary ‘Village in the Park,’ as outlined by

However, Coral Springs’ agreement to pass on the 8.5 acres is tied to Parkland’s promise to sell a contiguous 9.3 acres to LifeTime Fitness. The financial sum of Parkland’s compensatory payment to Coral Springs remains to be hammered out, but the resolution passed by Coral Springs assures that staff will take the necessary steps to swiftly enable the transfer. In a joint workshop earlier this year, Coral Springs and Parkland officials meticulously hashed out the details of the deal, setting a cooperative precedent for future endeavors.

Meanwhile, luxury home builders Toll Brothers are slated to contribute to the upscale transformation with plans for 52 homes in the Heron Bay sector, aligning with the city’s expansive vision of sophisticated, yet community-centric living spaces.
