Cornel West Fails to Qualify for Pennsylvania Presidential Ballot

Following the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s upholding of a lower court order on Monday, counties in the battleground state began printing ballots, but independent presidential candidate Cornel West will not be on the ballot.

Pennsylvania Secretary of State Al Schmidt made the following remark prior to certifying the ballot: “Counties can now prepare their ballots to be printed, then begin sending mail ballots to voters who have requested one as soon as they are printed.”

Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court affirmed the lower Commonwealth Court ruling in a one-page order, stating it agreed with Schmidt’s office that West failed to provide the needed affidavits for 14 of West’s 19 presidential electors by the Aug. 1 deadline.

In the weeks leading up to Pennsylvania’s election on November 5, West, 71, has been battling to have his name on the ballot.

Democrats contested his candidacy as former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris vied for the swing state’s 19 electoral votes.
