Couple murdered each other as their 11-year-old son played video games in next room: Cops

An 11-year-old Washington state boy made a horrific discovery on Halloween night when he found his parents dead in the kitchen of their home after they stabbed and shot each other to death, according to police.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff Office said in a press release that the boy called 911 at around 6 p.m. to report that his parents had been killed at the home in the 4700 block of Olympia Way in Longview, located in southeast Washington near the border with Oregon. Deputies rushed to the residence and found a man and woman unconscious on the kitchen floor. Paramedics pronounced both victims dead at the scene.

Cops identified the pair as 38-year-old Juan Antonio Alvarado Saenz and his 39-year-old wife Cecilia Robles Ochoa. Their son was at home at the time of the incident but did not witness anything as he was in another room playing video games and wearing earbuds, police said.

Autopsies determined Alvarado Saenz died from multiple stab wounds to the chest, while Robles Ochoa suffered gunshot and stab wounds. Detectives found a knife and gun at the scene. Alvarado Saenz allegedly stole the firearm from his workplace, with his employers not realizing it was gone until after the incident.

Law enforcement concluded the couple was “assaulting each other,” but they were unable to determine which person was the “primary aggressor.” Cops conducted several interviews with people who allegedly knew the couple and told them that Alvarado Saenz and Robles Ochoa had “relationship issues” and were planning on separating.

The incident remains under investigation.
