At least one person was trapped and other others were hurt in a serious multi-vehicle incident that occurred early this morning on Nanakuli’s Farrington Highway. KITV reported that the Honolulu Fire Department responded with 16 people and six units.
Five automobiles were involved in the collision, which happened just after five in the morning. When the first HFD unit arrived at 5:27 a.m., they found a victim trapped in their car. To free the imprisoned person, the firemen used hydraulic rescue equipment. According to KITV, care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at approximately 5:50 a.m. following the rescue.
After the fire department secured the area, the Honolulu Police Department assumed control of the area. Three patients with varying degrees of injury were treated by EMS at the same time. All of the victims were taken to nearby emergency facilities for additional care after one was reported to be in critical condition.
According to KHON2, the collision had severely disrupted traffic, closing Farrington Highway in both directions at Auyong Homestead Road. According to reports, one westbound lane was used as contraflow and traffic was rerouted up Auyong to relieve the congestion. While investigators continue to look into what caused the collision, HPD is currently investigating the areas involved in the collision.
