Cy-Fair ISD Parents Demand Increased Pedestrian Safety After Students Struck by Vehicles

In the wake of recent pedestrian accidents involving students from Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (Cy-Fair ISD), parents are calling for more stringent safety measures. Two separate incidents drew public attention after students were struck by vehicles in close succession one at a Cy-Fair ISD elementary school and another in the parking lot of Cypress Park High School.

Concerned parent Alexandra Price, who’s been advocating for safer conditions, urged for action following the elementary school incident. According toFOX 26, Price reached out to her state senator for support. After discussions, a 90-day traffic assessment was initiated to evaluate the timing and location of crosswalks. “Based on the evidence I provided, the county said that they would do a traffic control study here around our schools,” Price shared with the station.

Meanwhile, a high school student’s accident has her mother, Netisha Walton, asking for improved safety measures. Her daughter Morgan was pinned between two cars in the Cypress Park High School parking lot after a fellow student accidentally accelerated. Speaking toKHOU 11 News, Walton said, “At least if they have more police out there, they have more staff out there or cross guards showing that hey, this is for pedestrians to walk out there.”

In response to inquiries, Leslie Francis, Cy-Fair Asst. Superintendent for Communication & Community Relations, explained how the district is handling potential improvements. “We continue to work with HOAs, MUDs, and Precincts 3 and 4 to identify solutions and additional resources to address concerns,” Francis imparted toFOX 26. However, with a budget deficit for the 2024-2025 school year, the resources for safety enhancements seem tight.
