Cyclist in Critical Condition After Collision with Vehicle at Busy Columbus Intersection

A serious collision involving a bicycle and a motor vehicle occurred earlier this week at the intersection of Godown Rd. and Bethel Rd., leaving an adult cyclist in critical condition. According to the

Columbus Division of Police

, the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 3:39 P.M. when a 2024 silver Volkswagen Tiguan proceeded south on Godown Rd—entered the intersection on a green light.

The cyclist, who was on the eastbound sidewalk of Bethel Rd., entered the crosswalk and collided with the front passenger side of the SUV. This sudden and unfortunate intersection of paths resulted in emergency services rushing the victim to an area hospital. The police’s Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene and is presently investigating the specifics of the accident.

While details are still emerging, the intersection of Bethel and Godown Roads is known to be busy during peak hours, raising questions about traffic safety and the protection of vulnerable road users in urban spaces. Cyclists often share close quarters with motorists around the city, and the shared responsibility of keeping roads safe for all can’t be overstated.
