An accident that occurred on the west loop in Tyler and involved an 18-wheeler resulted in the deaths of two people.
After an 18-wheeler collided with another vehicle, causing it to collide with three other vehicles and resulting in the deaths of two individuals, the traffic in the northbound direction from Front Street to Erwin Street in Tyler has been rerouted, as stated by the Tyler police department.
A GMC SUV was heading northbound on West Elm Street and crossing the loop when it turned into oncoming traffic and into the path of an 18-wheeler, as stated by Andrew Erbaugh, a spokesman for the Tyler Police Department.
The GMC was thrown into oncoming traffic after being struck by the 18-wheeler, which caused it to collide with three vehicles that were on the opposite side of the loop.

The two individuals who were traveling in the GMC were pronounced dead at the spot. William Connerly, who was 82 years old, and Shirley Connerly, who was 79 years old, also lived in Kerens.
At the hospital, both the driver of the 18-wheeler and the driver of one of the vehicles that was struck were transported with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
The closure of the loop was eventually lifted at 5:50 p.m.
