MILWAUKEE, Wis. (DDN) – The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said that a wrong-way crash on Interstate 43 killed two persons Saturday morning.
Deputies reported that two automobiles were driving the wrong way on I-43. One of those automobiles, a white sedan driving south in the northbound lanes, collided with an oncoming car shortly after 5 a.m. near National Avenue in Wisconsin.
The male driver of the white sedan and a female passenger died. Another female passenger sustained significant injuries. Deputies said other crash victims, including a toddler in the impacted vehicle, are likely to survive.
According to the sheriff’s office, both wrong-way vehicles appeared to enter the highway at Plankinton Avenue.
The sheriff’s office stated that deputies are still searching for the driver of the second wrong-way vehicle. Investigators are also investigating into whether the two wrong-way vehicles are connected.
The second wrong-way car was identified as a dark or silver SUV. Drivers who talked with FOX6 News described the news as stunning, but not surprising.

“It’s sad, but it wasn’t really that shocking,” Jonathan Rader remarked.
“I get on this ramp every day through the week going to work. I feel like it’s very chaotic,” said Sierra Arthur. “All I can say is try to pay attention more when driving, and try to be really conscious about what’s around you as much as you can to avoid things like that.”
“It makes driving in the city, which is already stressful, even more stressful,” said Elly Girmscheid.
According to the most recent Federal Highway Administration data, deaths from wrong-way driving increased between 2018 and 2022.
