Cincinnati, Michigan (CBS Detroit)Santa is working with the Dearborn Fire Department to bring gifts to children receiving treatment at Corewell Health Children’s Center for Exceptional Families because, as a youngster, there is nothing better than receiving presents during the Christmas season.
Children like 6-year-old Ayden Jenkins approached Santa, who had a gift waiting for them, one by one on Wednesday. Ayden couldn’t wait to see his friend St. Nick.
“For Christmas, I will open all the gifts Santa gave for me,” Ayden replied.
According to Chonda Calloway, Ayden’s mother, she looks forward to this day each year.
“Everyone is having a difficult time right now,” Calloway remarked. “It’s hard for everybody, and for the center to help parents just a little, it takes just a little bit of stress off of us, and we love it.”
At the Corewell Health Children’s Center for Exceptional Families, people adore the yearly custom. Children with developmental problems are among the approximately 3,500 patients the clinic sees annually.
Police officers and firefighters from Dearborn assisted in organizing the event on Wednesday.
“We want to say thank you for everything they do, not just Christmas time presents but for everything they do for the community and keeping us safe,” Calloway added.
Santa provided the items the children requested, and the first responders assisted in purchasing them.
Chad Bronson, a firefighter from Dearborn, remarked, “You just can’t put into words what a small act of kindness will do to people.”
Dr. Susan Youngs, Director of Corewell Health Children’s Center for Exceptional Families, stated, “We just want them to know when they come here that they are deeply loved, cared for, and treasured and that they are celebrated for all the milestones they are hitting across the year.”
At the event on Wednesday, over 20 kids got to meet Santa and get presents.
