Yesterday afternoon, during Michigan’s firearm shooting season, a deer slammed through a window of the Gardner White Furniture business in Kochville Township. The incident happened when the deer seemed to try to flee the neighboring hunting activities by entering the store.
The doe ended up navigating through a display of dining sets and sofas instead of the protection of the woods, seemingly in an effort to avoid hunters. ABC12 confirmed the brief incident, which happened at approximately 3:40 p.m. After a while, the deer ran out of energy and fell into the store’s corner.
To control the incident, deputies from the Saginaw County Sheriff’s office, Cameron Helwer and Evan Johnson, arrived on the site.The tired doe had to be manually carried out of the building, and KFOXTV was able to record the process using body cam footage. The deer became confused for a few seconds after being released, but then it calmed down and ran away.
Sheriff William L. Federspiel remarked, “We get some strange stuff, don’t we?” after considering the nature of his work. “A day in the life of a deputy,” he said, as reported by MLive. Neither consumers nor store employees were hurt during the incident, despite the abrupt disruption.
Since the beginning of the rifle season, 80,381 deer have been harvested, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, as of this morning.According to MLive, Gardner White has not disclosed an estimate of the damages, and it is still unknown why the deer entered the retail area.
