DeKalb County residents should mark their calendars for the last food distribution event hosted by CEO Michael Thurmond. The ceremony, which is scheduled for this Saturday, Nov. 23, will mark the culmination of a significant community effort that began in May 2020. By giving more than 170,000 food boxes over more than 40 events, the project has been a lifeline for many during the COVID-19 pandemic’s difficulty. In a statement obtained by the DeKalb County Government, CEO Thurmond stated, “Working with the Board of Commissioners, faith leaders, and community volunteers to help fight food insecurity in DeKalb County has been an honor and a privilege.” His words demonstrated how much effort these organizations have put into helping their community as a whole. Starting at precisely 9 a.m., the CEO’s office has planned to start giving 5,000 cartons of locally sourced vegetables and chicken hindquarters to different churches and community religion centers.

Shy Temple CME Church in Decatur and Antioch AME Church in Stone Mountain are a couple of the prominent distribution sites.
