On Sunday, the Denton County Emergency Services District #1 invites the Denton community to an occasion of remembrance and respect for one of the nation’s foremost symbols. The Flag Retirement Ceremony, a traditional event taking place in honor of Veteran’s Day, is scheduled to occur at the Fellowship of the Parks—the FOTP in the Town of Northlake, Texas. According to the
Denton County Emergency Services District #1
, worn and tattered American flags will be laid to rest with dignity, their final call answered by the careful hands of local Boy Scouts.
For citizens holding unserviceable flags with the blues of liberty faded and the reds of valor frayed, this event represents an opportunity to ensure that these symbols are retired with the ceremony they deserve. The Boy Scouts will assist in the flag retirement by managing the burn area, which is described as an approved location. Community members are not only welcome but also encouraged to witness and participate in the solemn proceeding.
Those unable to attend the ceremony have been provided an alternative by the Denton County ESD #1. Designated drop boxes have been stationed in the lobbies of several fire stations across the community. Flags that need retiring can be deposited at Station 511 on Gibbons Rd S, Station 513 on Copper Canyon Rd, and Station 514 on Cleveland Gibbs Rd. The gesture allows for continuous respect of the flag, even beyond the boundaries of the ceremonial site.
