A 41-year-old Denver man, Christopher Carl Meier, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison after a guilty plea for charges related to distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Meier was a registered sex offender and had previously been convicted of sexual exploitation of a child in 2013.
According to the
U.S. Department of Justice
, his recent involvement included being an active member of a dark web website that focused on CSAM specifically depicting boys. While on parole, Meier managed to not only join but also to actively engage in the site’s activities, making over 600 posts in 18 months.
On the dark website in question, Meier advertised and distributed explicit images and videos of minor boys. He admitted on the site to have produced such material by deceiving the boys into believing they were communicating with a girl their age. The FBI has identified at least 65 victims linked to Meier’s criminal activities.
Officials from the Justice Department, including Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri, along with members of the FBI, announced the sentencing. The FBI Child Exploitation Operational Unit and Denver Field Office jointly investigated this harrowing case. Meier’s conviction is the result of their efforts to dismantle networks seeking to harm children.
Upon release after serving his sentence, Meier will also be subjected to a lifetime of supervised release, indicating the severity of his crimes and a continued effort to prevent him from ever posing a danger to society again. Acting Deputy Chief Kyle Reynolds of the CEOS and Assistant U.S. Attorney Alecia L. Riewerts for the District of Colorado led the prosecution against Meier.
